AI Overview
How the AI assistant works in Plottik and what it can do for you.
How It Works
The AI assistant in Plottik isn't a generic chatbot. It has access to your entire manuscript, all your characters, locations, items, world-building entries, timeline, and relationships. When you ask it something, it retrieves relevant context from across your project before responding.
What the AI Can Do
- Answer questions about your story, characters, plot, and timeline
- Search your manuscript for specific events, dialogue, or descriptions
- Read and summarise scenes, chapters, or character arcs
- Suggest edits to your prose (shown as reviewable diffs)
- Create new content — scenes, characters, locations, world entries
- Generate summaries for chapters, books, or the whole project
- Help with continuity by checking details against your canon
What It Won't Do
The AI doesn't write your book for you. It doesn't auto-generate prose without being asked. It doesn't make changes without your review. Every suggestion goes through a review step before being applied.
Chat Panel
The AI chat panel appears on the right side of the screen in the editor, workspace, and entity pages. Ask questions in natural language and the AI responds with context from your project.
Three Model Roles
Plottik uses three separate AI models behind the scenes, each with a different job:
- Chat Model — The main model you interact with. Handles questions, edits, content creation, and tool use. Should be your most capable model.
- Router Model — Classifies the intent of each message so the app knows how to handle it. A smaller, faster model works fine here.
- Summarise Model — Handles entity extraction and summarisation tasks. Also works well with a smaller model.
You can configure each model independently in Settings. See Recommended Models for suggestions on what to use for each role.
Providers
Plottik supports three AI providers. See the setup guides for each:
